Stop Cussing

Pastor Jeremy D. Battle

In this sermon titled “Stop Cussing” from Genesis 9:18-27, Pastor Battle alerts us to the reality that our experiences can cause us to say and do things that have far-reaching consequences. In the story of Noah, for example, his negative response to his son, Ham, has been used to enslave Brown & Black people throughout history. Pastor reminds us that in order to avoid turning a moment of frustration into a lifetime of mess, we have to learn to not make decisions in offense; if we are not careful, we can cause harm because we say something out of anger. Furthermore, we must learn how to exchange shame for grace, remembering that we should extend grace to others just as God does to us. When we do this, we will begin to understand that a curse can become a covenant - that which frustrated or disappointed us can, in fact, become a blessing because of God’s intervention.
